My first step in learning more about how to reach my goal of competing and simply increasing my mobility and daily activity was to figure out who to talk to. I went online and searched around the US Paralympic website and after reaching out to a few people, eventually found out about Team PossAbilities in Loma Linda, California. I was able to meet with Cotie Williams, the manager for this organization, and learned that while the sports to choose from were somewhat limited at this point in time, they do sponsor and help people like me get started as long as we put in the necessary work. Team PossAbilities fully sponsors a local wheelchair basketball team, the Rolling Bears, as well as recommended coaches and other activities with scheduled events throughout the year and even Grants that I could start applying for in the future.
This was a great motivation, especially when I learned that several of their athletes were going to Rio this year to compete. I can't wait to get started!
